Empire Chemical Tankers was established in 1997 in order to manage the construction, Technical and Commercial Management of IMO II Chemical Tankers.

In 2006, Empire placed new building orders in Korean and Turkish Shipyards for 19 IMO Type II Chemical Carriers, eventually taking delivery of 8 vessels ranging in size from 17,000-25,000 DWT.
